But how to satisfy the
masses?
Uzma Zafar
A car’s going on the service road while another one, taking the wrong
turn from the right, butts in, marching ahead till the other car is just
inches away. Breaks pulled, no lives damaged, both sides should’ve been
satisfied but no, how can they be when the fasts are so tough and the
youth visibly frustrated of the fact that our country is heading towards
disaster. So, the two drivers get out, both suited, buited, representing
sound, educated families, bark a little and as the rest of the also
impatient traffic, angrily rests their hands on the car horns, the
rivalry is put to an end and the scene departs. This scene was never
common in Ramazan. In fact, we all used to wait all the year long for
the fasting month to begin. Then what has happened now?
People had been anticipating for so many days that when Ramazan would
come along, the clocks would be shifted back to the old time and
everyone would heave sighs of relief for they’ll wake up late, sleep
more and the fasts would be comparatively shorter than they are right
now. Besides, instead of 6 hours of load shedding, prior to the onset of
Ramazan, it was announced that the hours of the load shedding would be
reduced to 4 instead of 6 but there was no word of technical faults in
face of which the light keeps disappearing for hours and hours, in
addition to the prescribed load shedding timings.
Where the not shifting of hands of time back to the basic makes sense as
the current government is of course, taking out it’s fury on it’s
predecessor, making the poor masses suffer in frustration, but the
continuous load shedding despite constant floods, is a bit hard to
comprehend. Whatever the ulterior motives of the government high-ups
might be, in both cases, the resultant is posing an ugly picture before
the masses and they are frustrated than never before!
If the new regime wants to satisfy the needs of the masses and represent
the masses through their consent, then it needs to earn the love,
respect and understanding of the nation first. Just by coming into power
does not do the trick! The toughest job is to satisfy our masses as they
never really get satisfied from any leadership, that easily, till the
regime is gone of course. This is the month for brotherhood, forgiveness
and patience against all bitterness. If the government is patient,
forgiving and begins to put the masses’ interests before it’s own party
agenda, the masses would be easier to tame and serve.
The masses might seem hard to please but there’s really not very hard or
fast procedure to satisfy them. The need is to simply serve them with
loyalty, treat them with understanding and plan for them, their future
that could put the country to the road to prosperity. The masses are
sick and turn of politics of leg pulling and allegations. Now they want
at least a whole month in peace! Is that too much to ask for? |
