without free judiciary: Aitzaz
By Saad Saud
ISLAMABAD—President Supreme Court Bar Association Chaudhary Aitzaz Ahsan
has said that stability in Parliamentary System is impossible without
Independent Judiciary, He expressed these views while talking to media
in front of Parliament House on Thursday.
He further stated that independent judiciary was essential for
democracy, as Independent Courts could not be established through any
Constitutional package but through brave democratic system. President
SCBA has said further that sits in were not the best choice for lawyers,
as they wanted that Parliament should be strong but without independent
judiciary it could not be strengthen, which was not only their stance
but also history also taught this lesson.
He told that an independent judiciary was possible only when the judges
would be independent. He said that Musharraf threw out the brave and
fearless judges one by one and Iftikhar Chaudhary was their leader and
those who did not wanted to restore him they would be considered a great
hurdle in the way of Independent judiciary. Later on he told that the
lawyers gathered in front of Parliament just to remind it that
Parliament should honor the promise of independent judiciary.
Many lawyers including President Multan High Court were injured when
police started baton charge on the lawyers who were protesting for
reinstatement of judiciary. According to details, responding to the call
from Supreme Court Bar Association, representatives of all Lawyers’
associations staged a sit in outside the Parliament House.
A clash between police and lawyers started when some young lawyers tried
to jump over the gate of Supreme Court building. After exchange of harsh
words, the deputed cops started baton charge over lawyers which injured
many lawyers including Khalid Ahmed the President of Multan High Court.
The angry lawyers condemned the baton charge and chanted slogans against
Government. Meanwhile since morning, foolproof security arrangements
were made regarding the lawyers’ protest and Constitution Avenue was
closed for any kind of traffic. Due to the Assembly and Senate session,
police force at mass level was deputed outside the all government
buildings. Parliamentarians and journalists were said to enter in
Parliament only by using Cabinet Division entrance. The tight security
arrangements stressed the employees CBR, Parliament House and Cabinet
Division. The following employees had to walk for miles to reach their
destinations due to road closings.
Pakistani riot police used sticks to beat lawyers demanding the
reinstatement of dozens of judges sacked by former president Pervez
Musharraf. The riot broke out after around 100 black-suited lawyers
tried to enter the Supreme Court building by climbing the main gates,
shouting slogans against the new chief justice appointed by Musharraf in
November.
After the 15-minute brawl, the lawyers retreated but continued their
demonstration. Some 500 lawyers had been joined by political party
workers and other supporters carrying black flags, placards and banners
in front of parliament house and the Supreme Court. “This is the
representative gathering of all lawyers and bar associations of Pakistan
and our struggle will continue until the reinstatement of all judges,”
