Indian cops revolt against Senior Officer
ORISSA—The internal security situation in Orissa state is turning from
bad to worse due to control of rebels in the area. Police personnel are
refusing to perform their duties in war against Maoists rebels.
The refusal came after an incident in Orissa's Malkangiri district in
which as many as 24 policemen were killed when Maoist rebels blew up
Police anti-landmine vehicle carrying the policemen who were returning
from the 'MPV41' village where rebels had looted a contractor's house
and set fire to five of his vehicles.
In a recent incident Policemen deployed at Malkangiri, district Orissa
also revolted against their senior officers for making them sacrificial
lambs in the hands of Maoists rebels.
The Policemen did not allow Deputy Inspector General Police, South
Western Range and Superintendent of Police, Orissa to pay homage to 24
Policemen killed in an ambush by Maoist rebels on 16 July 2008. The
morale of the Police personnel in the state is very low due to
deteriorating law and order situation.
