CDA holds walk to promote breast feeding

ISLAMABAD—The Directorate of Health Services of Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Tuesday arranged a walk to promote breast feeding in connection with the Breast Feeding Week being observed worldwide.
People belonging to different walks of life participated in the walk and were carrying banners inscribed with different slogans. On the occasion, Senior Director Health Services Dr Saeed Ahmed briefed the participants about the role and efforts of the directorate in promoting reast feeding among young mothers.
He emphasized the advantages of breast feeding for mothers and children including saving the parents and children from communicable diseases and mothers from breast cancer. Dr Saeed stressed on breast feeding for first six months, adding that it will decrease the morbidity and child mortality.
The walk ended with the commitment of participants to motivate women for breast feeding at every level and in every section of society. Agencies Add: In Pakistan, 74 infants die out of 1,000 live births every year out of these 57 are those who die before reaching one month of age due to diarrhea, pneumonia, respiratory infections and malnutrition. A major source of these diseases is lack of exclusive breastfeeding, use of unhygienic bottles, formula milk and teats. These infants can be saved if they are protected through natural protection of mother's milk without use of any other food item like gutti, honey or water upto first six months.
