Devastating rain, flood leave 17 dead

Islamabad—Heavy rainfall and floods have victimized seventeen people till now while many areas are cut off from rest of the country. According to Online sources, a woman and a minor were swiped in flood Barqambar Khail and expired while five people died and four went missing when flood demolished a house yet a man inside house remained safe. In Jamrud, officials of Khasadaar Force recovered five dead bodies from a flooded nulla, the bodies were sent to in the office of APA Jamrud for identification. Sources informed that old bridge at Takhat Baig was demolished in flood blocking Pak Afghan Road. NWFP Government has called Army to face any emergency situation.
A lower level flood is observed in Punjab. The Chanab River is flooded in Khanki and Qadirabad while the Ravi in Balloki while Indus River is flooded in Guddu at lower levels.
The situation is critical in areas of Peshawar district. Homes and localities are flooded in Pothohar, Raiki, and Shahi Bala and other near residential areas and residents are besieged. A woman was swiped in a house collapse while many other homes were demolished in Adezai of Kohat. Chief Minister NWFP, Ameer Hayder Khan Hoti said that Government would cooperate with the district governments for public relief.
According to reports from Balochistan, there are some casualties as well. Rain is still continuing in Gawadar since last day and Costal Highway is still blocked even after 24 hours. Gawadar is disconnected from rest of the country.
Flood affected people of NWFP are being evacuated from the devastated areas by helicopters, Relief Commissioner Peshawar Afzal Kemal said. Talking briefly with Express News he informed that marooned people are being shifted to relief camps set up in various schools of the province.
Some relief camps have also been established in other government buildings. Meal and all necessary items are also being provided to the marooned people, he said. All possible help would be provided to the affectees till their complete rehabilitation, he added.
Pakistan Army Troops started rescue and relief operations in the out skirts of Peshawar City on the request of civil administration on Monday. Army rescue teams and MI 17 helicopters shifted flood affectees to safer places due to flash floods in Regi Lama and Khoshal Bagh Warsak road areas.
Pakistan Army rescue tams are in a state of high alert to meet any challenge in the wake of continues rains and flooding in NWFP / FATA.
Army Authorities have also warned the population living in close proximity of landslide prone and low lying areas to move to safer places in flood affected areas.
A flood monitoring cell has been setup at the Corps Headquarters Peshawar where latest flood situation is being monitored and coordination is being made with civil administration.
