Pak, India agree to keep up peace talks
COLOMBO—The prime ministers of nuclear-armed
India and Pakistan held closed-door talks in
the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Saturday
in a bid to salvage their troubled peace

9 security men killed in roadside bombing

PESHAWAR—A bomb exploded at a bridge on
Saturday, killing at least nine security
forces in a valley where Pakistani troops
are battling Islamic militants, police said.
Police officer Bashir Khan said the
remote-controlled bomb hit a vehicle
traveling from police headquarters in
Mingora, the main town in the troubled Swat
valley, as it carried money to pay the
salaries of the staff in the nearby town of
Kabal. Khan said the bomb was planted at a
bridge between the two towns. Senior police
officer Khalid Nasim said the attack killed

Taliban deny Zawahiri hurt in missile strike

WASHINGTON—Al-Qaida No 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri
has reportedly been critically injured, and
might be possibly dead, according to a CBS
News report. However the Pakistani army has
said that they have no reports or proof of
this claim. The CBS report is based on a
copy of an intercepted letter from sources
in Pakistan, which urgently requests a
doctor to treat al-Zawahiri. If injured and
alive, he is believed to be somewhere in
Pakistan’s remote tribal areas, said the
report. The letter refers to Sheikh Dr Ayman
al-Zawahiri by name, and says that he is in
“severe pain” and his “injuries are
