Of hidden talents & wishes unknown…
Uzma Zafar

Blurt Out

Just like sensationalism and substantial journalism cannot exist in the same space, similarly commercialism and innate art can never mean the same thing. We keep saying that we are a skillful nation but there are no avenues of promotion of art in our place of the world but have you ever thought about it that how many of us have really gone out and tried our luck, let that be in painting, dramatics, creative writing, photography; commonly known as painting with light, music, instrumental art or anything for that matter? In fact, how many of us really became who we planned to be at our childhood or to put it like this, how many of us really pursued what their dream career or even got their dream education? I think, most of us would reply in negative. Many of us would say that they were aimless ever since they could remember and some would say that they never knew how serious they were about something till the golden age was gone.
Every human being is born with many talents. Some have thin ears and others have sharp noses, some have a knack for cracking jokes while others can entice anyone into anything. But not all such people become good listeners or join call centers, join cookery, become comedians or join the marketing arena. Why? Because they never really tried! In fact, many of them end up wasting their skills, sitting home and engrossing themselves into meaningless blabber and idle gossip, without even knowing what they are capable of. Each talent is accentuated unconsciously through the society. It is when one recognizes his talent and if he has interest in it too, pursues it, and grooms it either through some course or practical experience. And if one has the eye for it, he does spot opportunities on his way as well, each one opening new doors for others and yet others. One just has to take the first step!
If in the yesteryears there were programmes like Music Challenge and various others of that kind, in PTV and then STN as well, today we have more channels and added opportunities to compete with others of our kind while make like-minded associates in the process and platforms from where we can rise to our destined goals. Most recently we have PSI; Pakistan Sangeet Icon on Indus Vision and Dum Hai on ARY Digital, which has given the opportunity to budding and learned singers, magicians, dancers, flute instrumentalists and people from all artistic talents in fact. If PSI is giving opportunities to singers to come forward, from all over Pakistan, then programmes like Dum Hai is opening doors for every kind of skill to get encouragement in the outer world.
Opportunities are there and were always there. And that’s why if painters and sketchers were not known before, now they are praised and appreciated in the galleries all around. Similarly, if magicians, telekinesis experts, instrumentalists, photographers and in fact, all artists, just stop for a moment and think that what harm could a little competition do, and come forward with the essential sportsman spirit, art would soon get it’s required place in our society. Winning and losing is part of the game but what is important is to at least try to see what one has really got in him and take the first step. Believe in yourself and make the world believe in you is the required spirit. As every society is known by it’s talent, skill and art, thus we too, should attribute towards the big picture instead of sitting idle and waste our lives in the dark!
