Sharifs’ nomination papers challenged

LAH0RE—The Returning Officers (RO) for by-elections of various constituencies in provincial capital have started the scrutiny of nomination papers while the papers of PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif have been challenged.
Mian Nawaz Sharif’s nomination papers from NA-123 were challenged by Mian Ikhlaq Guddoo and Noor Elahi. Both the challengers alleged that Mian Nawaz Sharif was convicted in a plane hijacking case registered in 1999 while he also did not mention his complete assets in the nomination papers.They also alleged that Mian Nawaz Sharif was involved in a case of attacking Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1998.
Ashtar Osaf, the counsel for Nawaz Sharif argued before Chaudhary Badar-ud-Din, the RO of NA-123 who, after hearing the arguments of both the parties reserved the judgment which will be announced today, Thursday.
The nomination papers of PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif from PP-141 and PP-154 were also challenged by Shahid Orakzai,Azhar Lodhi and Salamat Ali.
They alleged that PML-N President Shahbaz Sarif was involved in a case of attack on Supreme Court in 1998 while he also committed contempt of court during a press conference in 2007 in which he addressed the judges of superior courts with bad words.
Ibrahim Asghar, the RO for PP-154 after hearing the arguments of the parties reserved the judgment and will announce the decision tomorrow, Thursday.
Shahid Hussain Chaudhary, the RO for PP-141 will announce the decision on the same charges against Shahbaz Sharif on May 17.
The decision regarding the candidature of Hamza Shahbaz from NA-119 and Capt. Muhammad Safdar from NA-123 will be announced today, Thursday.
