Govt reaches consensus with Taliban on Shariah in Swat
ISLAMABAD—Government and Taliban have agreed on implementation of
Shariah law in the restive Swat valley on Wednesday. The government has
agreed that the judiciary would act in collusion with Ulema in Swat.
Representatives of Maulana Fazlullah and the government were in close
contact over the last few weeks that at last struck into the peace deal
giving way to the imposition of Shariah. The decision would be
implemented in a month time.
NWFP senior Minister, Bashir Ahmad Bilour has said here Wednesday that
Shariah-compliant system would be enforced in Swat within one month.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that the process of dialogues in Swat
was moving ahead fast and by this time two sessions of talks have been
held and hoped that all the matters would be finalized in the third
phase of talks. Bashir Ahmad Bilour said that the people of Malakand
Division wanted enforcement of Sharea and the NWFP government would
enforce it in their area within one month. When quizzed, he said that
the federal government has withheld NWFP allocation of Rs10 billion of
development funds.—Agencies
Taking this stand that the previous government had utilized Rs43 billion
funds, Bilour said NWFP Chief Minister, Amir Haider Khan Hoti has gone
to Islamabad for holding talks in this regard.
