The Beautiful Life

DEAR READERS, my last article was about hair loss and its cure, which stirred interest hence this time round I’m going to expound on this subject.
“Why do we face this problem? What am I doing wrong?” These are some of the questions that I am asked practically every day. Most times I want to blurt out “everything” but that’s too much of a shock for most people to digest! So then I lay out the cards slowly. Firstly and most importantly are the products that we use on our hair. Our shampoo, conditioner, serums, oils, gels etc are all directly applied to our hair, so they have the most immediate impact. Whenever you visit your hair stylist ask her/him about the condition of your hair and tell them to recommend products that suit your hair the most. Please don’t shy away. As a client it is your prerogative that your stylist gives you complete attention and listens to your treatment related problems. If need be, keep experimenting with different shampoos and hair products till you find one that suits you the most. Oils, again, need to be experimented with. Most of my clients state their preferences for oils because they already know what works the best for their hair. The most basic oil groups widely available in Pakistan are olive, almond, coconut and mustard seed. These oils can be applied on their own or can be mixed with other oils as well. Some oils, like castor oil, are so thick that they need to be mixed before use. Oiling is very popular in our part of the world and the massage that accompanies it is very stimulating if done properly. Always use your fingers to massage, rubbing with the palm breaks the hair, so please avoid that. Different hair treatments like oil and steaming or protein treatments do wonders for hair. Since steaming opens the pores, more oil gets absorbed and deeply nourishes the hair cuticle and strengthens it so that less hair falls out.
Secondly, but just as important as the first point is your diet. This effects our hair growth and health both in the long and short run. There was a time when high protein diets were very popular with people who wanted to shed weight fast. They did manage to lose weight but inversely effected their hair and skin. There’s nothing worse than a crash diet to ruin your general health, and the processes of repairing the skin and hair becomes a nightmare for those who never had to worry about it in the first place. So please consult a dietician if you want to loose weight, and go about it in a gradual manner so that your facial skin does not sag and you manage to keep your hair healthy and beautiful looking. So keep looking beautiful and if you have any queries do email!
