Akhtar Mengal released from jail

KARACHI—Former chief minister Balochistan, Sardar Akhtar Mengal made his
way out of the hospital after his release order issued by the court.
Sindh Interior Minister Zulifiqar Mirza carrying the release order
arrived at the hospital, where Mengal was under medical treatment.
Akhtar Mengal was shifted to Karachi jail on December 24, 2006. Talking
to media on this occasion, Megal demanded the probe into the killings of
all innocent people including former PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
He termed his release as the defeat of dictatorship and the victory of
democracy. Akhtar Mengal thanked the media and civil society, adding the
judges restoration is vital to dispel the sense of deprivation among
Pakistanis.
The Baloch leader said he was released without any deal, as there is no
word of deal in the Baloch dictionary.
BNP leader and former chief minister Balochistan Akhtar Mengal said
judges must be restored adding judges reinstatement is critical for
removing the sense of deprivation of people of Balochistan. He said this
while talking to journalists after leaving the hospital on his release
here Friday. Responding to a question he said Gwadar was, is and will
remain part of Balochistan. People of Balochistan have the right on
their resources. “We will ensure protection of their rights “, he held.
Replying to a question on participation in by elections he said “ we can
not get share from bounty by contesting by-elections”, he added.
The killers of Nawab Akbar Bugti are still sitting in Aiwan-e-Sadr,
government and assemblies, he said adding, “ our struggle for removing
the sense of deprivation of people of Balochistan will not scale down
and our morale is high”. He expressed his gratitude for media,
representatives of civil society and workers of his party for playing
their respective role in connection with his release.
A single bench of Balochistan High Court headed by Chief Justice
Amanullah Khan Yasinzai here on Friday adjourned hearing of treason
cases against Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) president,
Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal and other leaders of the party, till Friday
next (May 16).
The bench adjourned hearing of treason cases against the BNP-M president
and other leaders of BNP-M Habib Jalib advocate, Abdul Rauf Mengal,
Jahanzeb Jamaldini, Manzoor Baloch, Khalid Longov, Akhtar Hussain Longov,
Abdul Razaq Longov, Ghulam Nabi Marri, Ali Ahmed Kurd advocate, Suhail
Rajpoot advocate, and BSO leaders Nazeer Ahmed Baloch, Shafi Baloch,
Muhiddin Baloch and Amanullah Baloch.
The adjournment came when applicant-cum-counsel Habib Jalib advocate did
not appear before the court and the bench was informed by Ayyaz Zahoor
advocate that Habib Jalib was out of the station. During the last
hearing of the cases, Habib Jalib sought time for producing judgment
copy of the subordinate court in which co-accused had been acquitted in
the instant cases and were exonerated of the charges. During the
hearing, the CJ BHC remarked on reply of police officials and assistant
advocate general Malik Sultan Mehmmod that it was sole responsibility of
the government to ensure peace and control law and order situation.
The BNP-M and BSO leaders filed criminal quashment applications in 2007
challenging the FIRs registered against them after Ghaibana
Nimaz-i-Jinaza of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti in the provincial capital on
August 29, 2006 (Civil Line police station), after convention at Govt
Science College Quetta on July 13, 2002 (Gawalmandi police station),
after public meeting in Panjgur on June 9, 2004 (Panjgur police
