Nawaz in last ditch bid to save Murree pact
Bureau Report

LAHORE—The Quaid of PML-N, Mian Nawaz Sharif has accused certain elements of trying to disrupt the process of democracy in the Country. Talking to media before his departure for Dubai, he said that keeping the coalition intact was one of his sole and avid desire, and all his steps were rather for the integrity of Pakistan, rather than for his personal gains.
He expressed his vow to personally lead his delegation in talks with Asif Ali Zardari, so as to fulfill his National, moral and legal obligations, warning that there were ample elements who wanted to exploit the coalition between ruling party. Vowing not to accept the Nov 03 steps of President Musharraf, he lauded “The Murree Declaration” as clear and transparent enough regarding commitments to democracy, and all wanted transparent and peaceful implementations of its provisions.
Serious efforts are underway to resolve the deposed judges issue in line with Murree Declaration, PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif said. Talking to a private TV channel, he said PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif was due in Dubai to hold another round of negotiations with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. He said he was optimistic about the positive outcome of negotiations as both parties intend to implement the Murree Declaration in its letter and spirit and Tuesday afternoon meeting is a step in that direction.
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif will hold an important meeting with PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and he will try that deposed judges are restored by April, 30.
This was told by PML-N sources to a private TV channel here Tuesday. This will be the third and final session of talks, sources revealed. If these talks meet failure then PML-N will evolve its final strategy, sources added.
PML-N would not make any bid to destabilize the government if it parted ways with coalition government, sources said. On the other hand PML-N president Mian Shahbaz Sharif had also deferred his departure to Pakistan from Dubai. Talks took place between PPP and PML-N on Monday on the reinstatement of judges but leadership of both the parties evaded to talk to media after meeting. Following this development not only Nawaz Sharif decided to fly to Dubai but also Mian Shahbaz Sharif postponed his return to home.
Pervez Rashid spokesman of Nawaz Sharif told BBC Nawaz Sharif would meet Asif Ali Zardari today . Nawaz Sharif wanted to talk to Asif Zardari before taking any major decision, he said. Then PML-N will evolve its future strategy, he informed.
There is no harm if deposed judges of superior judiciary are reinstated with the delay of three or four days,Chairman PML-N Raja Zafarul Haq said Tuesday.
Talking to a private TV channel he said for the achievement of a great purpose, the delay of a few days will not make any difference and it can be endured to ensure restoration of judges.
He said PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif will hold negotiations with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and try to secure the reinstatement of deposed judges as early as possible.
Responding to a question he said PML-N can also agree on constitutional package if its reservations are removed.
