Judges to be
restored through Act: Sherry
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—The deposed judges would be restored on pre-November 3
positions through an act of parliament, Minister for Information and
Broadcasting Sherry Rehman said on Tuesday.
Talking to media at parliament house, the minister said those who are
talking of count down for restoration of judges should not be part of
any bid to destabilise the country. “Pakistan Peoples Party is a
democratic party and committed to Murree Declaration; our coalition with
PML (N) will also continue,” Sherry Rehman maintained.
“PPP believes in reconciliation and is committed to fulfil all the
promises made with nation,” she added. In reply to a question, Sherry
said their party would counter reverse counting against them,” however,
it does not mean to threaten anyone,” she clarified.
Replying to another query, she said PPP has not yet considered to resign
from Punjab cabinet in response to PML-N’s possible resigning from
federal cabinet.
Spokesman PML-N Siddique Al Farooq Tuesday said that the coalition of
PPP and PML-N would continue for the next five years and all the rumours
in this regard would negated in days ahead.
Talking to PTV, he said one should see the positive aspect of every
thing and as far as the issue of the reinstatement of the judges is
concerned there is no deadlock over it.
He said difference of opinion over any issue does not mean there is any
danger to the coalition of PPP and PML-N and added that this coalition
would continue so as to make the country economically stable and
progressive. According to Murree Declaration the judges would be
restored within the thirty days after the formation of federal
government , he added.
Siddique-ul-Farooq said “When we say that we want the judiciary of Nov 2
we do not mean a personality but our top priority is free media and
judiciary in the country”.
Replying to a question he said Asif Ali Zardari had talked about some
constitutional package and some aspects like job duration of CJ and
other judges, and whether the CJ could take the suo moto action or not
were under consideration. PML-N would show flexibility if there is some
logical delay in the judiciary issue, he said.
PML-N spokesman Siddiq ul Farooq has said talks between PML-N and PPP
with reference to judges restoration have not failed but they are
incomplete adding there are differences between the two parties on the
modalities for reinstatement of judges.
He said this while talking to a private TV channel here Tuesday. He held
Murree declaration is not a piece of paper which should be thrown away.
PPP had taken PML-N into confidence on constitutional package, he told.
The whole nation was anxiously waiting for restoration of judges, he
added. The dialogue can not be described a failure ahead of arrival of
Shahbaz Sharif in the country, he held. PML-N will quit the ministries
if the talks meet failure , he reiterated. However this decision would
be taken in PML-N executive council meeting, he pointed out.
PML-N would evolve future strategy by taking lawyers, civil society and
the whole nation into confidence, he announced. “Our party was already
not aspirant to join cabinet and we accepted ministries on the
insistence of PPP. Our participation in the government is conditional”,
he indicated. PML-N would take any decision to hold next round of talks
in the light of committee report”, he declared.
