says he is elected for 5 years

ISLAMABAD—President Pervez Musharraf on Monday underlined that
Parliament has elected him President for five years stressing that he is
performing his duties according to Constitution. President Pervez
Musharraf expressed these views while talking to a delegation of US
Congressmen in Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday.
Well-placed Sources told that the meeting lasted for quite a while in
which host of issues of bilateral interest were discussed in length on
Monday. Democratic process is moving swiftly and according to norms. He
urged he is a firm supporter of Democracy in country. He stressed the
need that he wants strong and stable relations with US urging US to help
Pakistan to overcome Energy crisis in the country. He assured US that
new Government is committed and determined to wipe the menace of
terrorism adding that war on terror will continue. He said that Pakistan
has rendered numerous sacrifices in war on terror.
President Pervez Musharraf further told the US Congress delegation that
he has fulfilled his promise regarding holding of free, fair and
transparent polls in the country. On the other hand, US delegation
assured President that US will keep on supporting Pakistan thick and
thin in all the fields of common interest like Trade, Energy and other
sectors respectively.

stability for economic growth and social development in the country said
it will go a long way in efforts to fight terrorism and
extremism.Talking to a five-member US Congressional delegation led by
Congressman Adam Smith that called on President Pervez Musharraf at the
Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President said the February 18 election had
strengthened forces of moderation in the country.
President Musharraf emphasized the importance of a comprehensive
counter-terrorism strategy containing political, socio-economic
development, and security components. The President also stressed the
need for forward movement on the initiative on Reconstruction
Opportunity Zones (ROZs), which has recently been submitted to Congress
for approval.
The President also discussed recent political developments and
Pakistan-US relations. He stressed the importance of maintaining a
broad-based and long-term Pakistan-US relationship, marked by
multifaceted cooperation in diverse fields including trade, investment,
education and health. In this regard he particularly emphasized the need
for enhanced market access.
The Congressional delegation underlined bipartisan view in the US about
the importance of Pakistan-US relations and support for a long-term
relationship based on mutual interests of the two countries. The
Congress members appreciated Pakistan’s contribution to the fight
against terrorism and expressed sympathy over the losses incurred in
this endeavor.
Congressman Adam Smith (D-Washington) chairs the House Armed Services
Subcommittee on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities and
also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Other members of the
delegation include: Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), Congresswoman
Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona), Congressman Bill Shuster
(R-Pennsylvania) and Congressman Mike Conaway. President Pervez
