Govt to address workers’ grievances: Sherry

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms. Sherry Rehman Monday said the government is committed to the welfare of working class, resolution of their problems and making Pakistan a true democratic country.
“People of Pakistan have sacrificed for their rights and the promotion of democracy and now the time has come to reap benefits of their struggle,” she said while congratulating the newly elected APP Employees’ Union President, Shahid Ali Butt and other office bearers on their victory.
The Minister expressed the hope that the newly elected body of APP Union would come up to the expectations of workers and utilize all its potential and talent for their welfare as well as for betterment of the organization.
Sherry Rehman said Chairperson of the PPP, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed for the promotion of democracy and for the rights of workers. She said Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in his maiden speech after taking oath as Premier announced lifting of ban on trade unions as one of the foremost measures which shows the true commitment of present government to ensure freedom of expression and their struggle for rights.
The Minister said under the leadership of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, the coalition government would stick to its tradition of securing people’s rights that would help further strengthening their confidence in democracy. Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas Qamar Zaman Kaira Monday congratulated the newly elected APP Employees Union. Talking to newsmen she felicitated the newly elected President of APP Employees Union Shahid Ali Butt and other office bearers, saying the government believes in freedom of expression and supremacy of law and the constitution.
