Crackdown launched against profiteers
DCO, CCP visit weekly, other bazaars

ISLAMABAD—ICT Administration has launched a crackdown against profiteers
within the city, to ensure availability of food items at control rates
while curbing the profiteering tendency in the process.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad; Amer Ali Ahmed
dispatched 3 price inspection teams, here this Sunday, headed by City
Magistrate; Kamran Cheema, Magistrate (Rural) Hussain Bahadur and
Magistrate Farasat Khan who conducted price inspection at weekly bazaars
at Tarlai, Bara Kahu and Shahzad Town, imposing heavy fines worth
Rs.10,000 on the profiteers for overcharging and not displaying the
prescribed rate list. The magistrates also checked availability of 20 kg
flour bags in the markets. Sufficient quantity of flour bags were found
to be available in all the markets, except Bara Kahu where some shortage
was reported which was immediately taken care of by calling in
additional supply of Atta through trucks. The magistrates warned
shopkeepers to ensure the display of rate list and selling food items at
the control rate. On the special directions of Chief Commissioner
Islamabad; Hamid Ali Khan, the Magistrates collected 30 Atta samples
from the flour mills to ensure quality of Atta. City Magistrate; Kamran
Cheema directed NIH officials for processing the report of the given
samples at the earliest. It is pertinent to mention here that ICT
Administration has declared of taking stern action in face of any sample
found to be substandard.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad; Hamid Ali Khan, on the other hand visited
various markets in Islamabad on Monday as well as reviewed the
arrangements regarding availability of 20kg Atta bags in the markets. He
paid surprise visits in the markets of Karachi Company, Sitara Market
and Aabpara market. |
