ICT admin launches crackdown against profiteers

ISLAMABAD—Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has launched
crackdown against the profiteers in Islamabad to ensure the availability
of food items at control rate and curbing the profiteering tendency.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed dispatched
three price checking teams on Sunday headed by Magistrate City Kamran
Cheema, Magistrate (Rural) Hussain Bahadur and Magistrate Farasat Khan
who checked prices in weekly bazaars, Tarlai, Bharakau and Shahzad Town.
They imposed heavy fines amounting Rs. 10,000 on the profiteers for
overcharging and not displaying rate list.
The magistrates also checked the availability of 20 kg flour bags in the
markets. Sufficient quantity of flour bags were available in the market,
except Bharakua where some shortage was reported which was overcome by
sending additional supply of Atta through trucks.
The magistrates warned the shopkeepers to ensure the display of rate
list and selling food items at eh control rate.
On the special directions of Chief Commissioner Islamabad Hamid Ali
Khan, the Magistrates have collected 30 samples of Atta from the flour
mils to ensure the quality of Atta.
City Magistrate Kamran Cheema has approached the officials of NIH for
processing the samples report at the earliest. ICT administration would
take stern action if any sample is declared substandard, the spokesman
of district administration said.
