4 killed as blast hits police station

MARDAN—Four people including Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) have been killed while 28 including 15 Police Personnel sustained serious injuries in a car bomb explosion in the wee hours of Friday morning in jurisdiction of Mardan City Police Station.
The explosion occurred at 5:50 am on Friday morning and more than 20 shops and a roof of local hotel dashed to ground while a portion of the police station was completely ruined in the blast. The blast was so powerful as its voice was heard in area of several kilometers. Roundabout 40 to 50 KG explosive material was used in the blast. ASI Farukh Saeed, unknown 14-year-old boy and passer by including Pir Muhammad and Fazal Subhan were among the deceased.
The injured were shifted to Mardan District Headquarter Hospital where emergency have been imposed while three who are in critical condition have been transported to Lady reading hospital Peshawar. Soon after the blast, the law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the entire area and started investigation.
Talking to newsmen District Nazim Mardan Hamayatullah Miyar confirmed the death of 4 people in the blast and said, “It was foiled attempt of those people who want to sabotage peace process initiated by newly government in tribal areas of the country”. We would not allow such elements to win in their nefarious design, he warned.—Agencies
