Minister urges for improvement in ANF performance

Islamabad—Federal Minister for Narcotics Control, Mr. Nazar Muhammad Gondal has urged to bring further improvement in Anti-Narcotic Force role and performance, while chairing a high level briefing, given by Maj. General, Khalid Amir Jaffery, D.G. (ANF).
Taking charge of the Ministry of Narcotics Control, the D.G. briefed the Minister about the organization, performance achievements, operations carried out by ANF and last but not the least goals and targets of ANF. It was told that ANF has adopted three (3) prongs strategy, (i) supply reduction (ii) Demand reduction (iii) Coordination with different stakeholders to combat drug smuggling and puppy cultivation in a effective way.
The D.G. further informed the Minister that ANF has already established Rehabilitation centers at Karachi, Islamabad and Quetta wherein free treatment, food, boarding and rehab to drug addicts are being provided and another center will be established at Lahore soon. The D.G. further said that we have acquired building at Karachi for ANF hospital, which will consist of 120 beds.
During the briefing, the Minister under lined the need for establishing more rehabilitation centers and separate wing for drug users at every District Hospital under proper supervision. He stressed upon public and private partnership and active role of NGOs to counter the drug menace.
