Drivers protest against intimidation of traffic police

RAWALPINDI—Drivers and owners of the urban transport of route # 7and 21 have held protests against being challaned with out any reason and the intimidating attitude of the transport conveners here on Thursday outside the offices of SP traffic police and secretary Rawalpindi transport association.
Transporters announced that the protests would continue, until acceptance of their demands against the Muttahida Transport Federation (MTF) and traffic police personals. According to details route # 7 plying between Sawan bus stand and Koh-e-Noor mills and route # 21 that transport the urban dwellers between Sawan bus stand and Islamabad secretariat staged the protest for the fulfillment of their demands, in which hundreds drivers and their helpers participated. President drivers association Maula Dad and members led the protesters and said in the address that the vehicles were being challaned and confiscated for three days and the withdrawing conditions were very strict after submitting the challan papers, terming it as a way of bribing the traffic officials. The drivers alleged that the police officials and the staff of secretary RTA is doing all this to please the fake president of Muttahida transport federation Rawalpindi Malik Sultan who tried to force out a “fee” of Rs. 50 per van for utilizing the wagon stand.
