Muslim elevated as Major General in Indian Army

ISLAMABAD—India has promoted a Muslim Brigadier, Mohammad Amin Naek to the two star rank of Major General, reported Indian media.
Major General Amin was commissioned in the Corps of Engineers in 1947 and bears an excellent service record all along his career. According to defence analysts, promotion of a Muslim to the coveted rank of a Major General barely screens the fact that Muslims claiming 15 percent share of the Indian population pie are grossly under represented in the Indian Armed Forces.
For a pre-independence representation of 33 percent in the Colonial Indian Army, their share now stands at less than two percent, they said. This gross under-representation only reflects the state of Muslims’ deprivation and institutionalized neglect that the community suffers in contemporary India, opined the analysts.—Agencies
