Child Labour survey in Pakistan soon: Khursheed

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that Pakistan would conduct Child Labour Survey in collaboration with ILO in the country this year.
He was talking to Mr. David Kramer US Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, who called on him along with two-member delegation here today. The Federal Minister said that poverty is the main root cause in creating environment, which forced the people for child labour. He said that present government is addressing this issue seriously.
However, he assured that Pakistan has successfully eliminated child labour from formal industrial sector. He apprized the delegation about the situation of poverty and working conditions of workers in the country. The Minister appreciated the technical assistance from US, focusing for capacity building for corporate social responsibilities, particularly addressing elimination of child labour from in­formal industry. He said that child labour survey after laps of ten years period is being conducting now, which would helpful to evolve future strategy to combat child labour Khursheed Ahmed Shah apprised the Assistant Secretary of State US department that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had first time set up Haman Rights division in the Ministry to address the violation of any form of human rights in society.
