Fehmida for peace, prosperity in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD—Dr. Fehmida Mirza Speaker National Assembly has said that Pakistan wanted to strengthen relations with Afghanistan and work together for peace and prosperity in the region.She said this while talking to Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Dr.Rangin Dadfar Spanta who called on her in the Parliament House today.
The Madam Speaker said that both Pakistan and Afghanistan were victims of terrorism and both suffered a lot from the menace of extremism.
She said that both the countries needed joint strategy and closer cooperation to address the root causes of terrorism. The Speaker said that Pakistan wanted stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan and it was also in the interest of the region. Underlining the need for enhanced interaction between the Parliaments of both the countries, she said that Parliaments of both the countries can play important role in strengthening relationship between the two countries. Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan said that Pakistan and Afghanistan were having tremendous commonalities and underlined the need to enhance cooperation to strengthen their relations. Emphasizing the need to enhance cooperation in all fields of economy, he said that Afghanistan’s doors were open for Pakistan for all kind of cooperation.
He congratulated Madam Speaker on behalf of the Government of Afghanistan and on his own behalf on successful democratic transition in Pakistan.
He also congratulated the Madam Speaker on her election as first Woman Speaker of Parliament in the Muslim World and extended her invitation on the behalf of the Speaker of Afghanistan’s Parliament to visit Afghanistan.
