The Beautiful Life
The
Daily Mail wants to reach out to all its readers concerning every aspect
of their life including the most popular yet most misinterpreted one:
beauty.
This single word invokes some amazing reactions that I have come across
in my 9 years of work experience. When people ask me politely but
indifferently, "what do you do?" And I answer them," I work as a
beautician." I can see the wheels turning in their heads and speculation
in their eyes. They don't quite know how to respond to that! Makes me
wonder if there is some stereotype about beauticians that I missed!
(It’s quite funny actually). Then comes the barrage of questions. "What
do you specialize in?" "I have a particular problem, what can you do
about it?" "What treatment would suit me?" All these questions make me
realize that most people are desperate for guidance, so much so that
most of my socializing now comprises of consultation!
Do forgive me though, for getting carried away. Let me formally
introduce myself. My name is Mona Gul. I am a certified Guinot
beautician working in Lahore for the past 9 years. Guinot is a very
famous french company whose facials are renowned throughout the world.
Peng Qureshi of Karachi is the official trainer and distributor of
Guinot products in Pakistan. Other than facials, I have trained in
aromatherapy, shiatsu and thai massage. My more recent expansion is in
hair and make-up, which is a whole new world in itself. I am currently
using the new range of hair products from Toni and guy called Label M.
As you can guess, my work is my passion and I can certainly talk
non-stop about it. I must thank the Editor of The Daily Mail, Mr. Babar,
for giving me this platform to reach out to more people. There are so
many people with various problems and queries but no direction. I hope I
can be of some help.
With spring in the air and flowers in bloom, love comes to mind for some
but for others its the season of allergies. Along with asthma, cold and
flu, most people end up with a rash, sensitivity on the face and neck,
blotches...etc, to name a few. For such people its necessary to switch
to the sensitive or the allergic skincare range. The problem with
prolonged allergies is that it can cause facial skin to become sensitive
and dry. If proper care is not taken, the skin will become worse: taut,
patchy and irritated.
The most important thing that most people overlook is cleansing. I have
lost count of the number of people who have told me that they wash their
face with ordinary soap. I can't begin to stress enough how damaging a
soap can be. All of us have read about Ph balance in our basic chemistry
class. It is a scale from numbers 1 - 14 with 7 being the neutral
number, neither acidic nor alkaline. 1 - 6 shows the acidity level
whereas 8 -14 shows the alkaline level. Soaps are so alkaline that they
take away all the surface oil from the skin, causing dehydration. When
used on an acne skin over a period of time the pimples sometimes start
erupting under the skin which makes it more difficult to treat them,
while the surface becomes more dehydrated. On the other hand a dry skin
will become even more dry and dehydrated and over a period of time the
excessive dryness can lead to excessive sensitivity.
A good quality face wash or cleanser should be used in lieu of soap,
which must be in accordance with the skin type I.e. If the skin is oily
then an oily skin face wash or cleanser must be used, not one for normal
skin or dry skin. It is also very important to get your skin analyzed by
a professional beautician before you start a treatment or purchase new
products. I always ask my clients to consult with me before buying a
Guinot product, so that I can give her what her skin needs.
Your skin is important. Please look after it well. Seek the guidance of
a professional for your skin needs. And please don't buy products which
have no ingredients written on them. A label only saying 70% herbal may
contain ingredients harmful for your skin. Do some research on the
company before purchasing the products. The reason why renowned
companies like Guinot are so expensive is that their Research &
Development budgets are very high. They aim to make the best of the best
for their clients and their training is very intensive so that we, the
beauticians can represent the companies competently. I look forward to
hearing from my readers with any queries about beauty!
Do take care till next time!
