Zardari, Nawaz vow to abide by Murree pact

ISLAMABAD—Hammering out their differences over the reinstatement of
deposed judges, Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N)
have agreed to reinstate deposed judges as per Bhurban agreement. Both
Parties have also decided to constitute committee comprised on
representatives Parties included in ruling alliance of Pakistan
Democratic Alliance (PDA) and it would resolve matter of deposed judges.
Quaid PML-N Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples
Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari stated this while addressing the press
conference after meeting to sort their differences over the Judges issue
here in Punjab house on Tuesday. Earlier, Federal law Minister Farooq H.
Naik told media about the successful talks between PPP and PML-N over
reinstatement of deposed judges. Both leaders have announced to
reinstate deposed judges through a resolution in the National Assembly
within 30 days.
Judges would be reinstated at all cost, said Nawaz, adding that,
legislation in this respect is being finalized. Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali
Zardari ruled out deadlock among the ruling collation partners over the
judge’s issue, saying, “Democratic forces continue talks. Deadlock
emerges when access to dialogue ends”. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said
that we have taken a strict stance on restoration of deposed judges and
they would be reinstated as per Bhurban accord. He lamented news of
deadlock in ruling alliance over the issue and asked media not to create
confusion.
Late Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, he said, was also wanted to
reinstate deposed judges. The time period of 30 days given for the
reinstatement of the judges is also the part of Bhurban agreement, Nawaz
Sharif added. We are not taking revenge of Benazir Bhutto’s murder but
want to change the system to save our forthcoming generation from crisis
and problems, Zardari said in reply to a question. We would not only
reinstate judges but also make stronger parliament, ensure rule of law
and constitution in the country, Zardari vowed.
“I am against count down. Former President Farooq Ahmed Leghari sent me
jail instead of Nawaz Sharif and spent 15 days in Sihala Jail. I was
arrested from Governor House by Army”, Zardari maintained. Former Prime
Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that those who want to create
rift among ruling alliance would be foiled in their nefarious design.
Asif Ali Zardari said the constitutional package would have complete
legislation about reinstatement and appointment of judges.
Answering to a question over Attorney General of Pakistan Malik Abdul
Qayum Khan, he asked media men to ask the question before the Prime
Minister. All people should have opportunity to complete their tenure,
he said. Nawaz Sharif said that there are no differences over ruling
alliance over reinstatement of deposed judges by saying that” I want it
to be done quickly and he (Zardari) wants us to wait. I am showing
patience but we are bound by the timeframe.”
Leaders of Pakistan’s ruling coalition vowed on Tuesday to honor a
commitment to reinstate judges dismissed by President Pervez Musharraf
and said any differences over the issue would not break their alliance.
“The desire of those who think this coalition should break up will go
unfulfilled,” former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said as he stood
alongside Pakistan People’s Party leader Asif Ali Zardari at a joint
news conference in Islamabad. |
