Executive
order to restore judge after consensus: PM
By Saad Saud
ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday underlined that
as soon as talks on Constitutional Package regarding Restoration of
Judges between Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif is finalized,
Government will immediately issue Executive Order.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed these views while addressing
parliamentary party meeting of Ruling Coalition Government on Tuesday.
Member National Assembly PML-N Naseer Ahmed Bhutta while talking to
Media gave details to them regarding parliamentary party meeting of
Ruling Coalition Government saying that Prime Minister clear cut said
that talks are underway for conclusive talks on Judges.
Prime Minister had said that he is personally interested in Restoration
of deposed Judges, he told. He said that Judges will be restored
according to Murree Declaration and stipulated time. Naseer Ahmed Bhutta
further said PM was of the view that implementation of Murree
Declaration is mandatory for Restoration of Judges reverting the
situation back to November 2 position. On the other hand, Prime Minister
will preside over Parliamentary Party of Coalition Parties on Wednesday
(today). Pakistan’s Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani says his
priorities since taking office have been to bring the country’s law and
order situation under control, deal with terrorism, improve economy and
strengthen democratic institutions so that the much-needed political
stability takes root.
In a wide-ranging interview with a leading US weekly magazine, he ruled
out holding talks with any armed militants—foreign or Pakistani—but said
that military force would be used only as a last resort. “We are not in
favour of talking to the militants and hardliners. We want to only talk
to people who have laid down and decommissioned their arms,” the prime
minister told Newsweek.
As part of the strategy to fight terrorism, Gilani said he wanted to
concentrate on bringing economic development to the FATA region. “We
should give the people bread and butter and jobs, and only then can we
think of the other strategy of [employing military] force.” Replying to
a question, he said, “We will not be blackmailed by them (militants). We
won’t listen to their demands that are totally unrealistic.”
Gilani also ruled out any unilateral U.S. military strikes inside
Pakistan, asserting Pakistan’s sovereignty. “We believe in democracy and
the rule of law, and we want respect for the sovereignty of the
country.” The prime minister said that parliament will strip President
Pervez Musharraf of his power to dissolve the government and will soon
restore the deposed senior judges.
“We believe in balance of power between the parliament and the
president. And with our coalition partners we are committed to rectify
all these things that are unconstitutional. We have a very fragile
democracy in Pakistan. So this hanging sword of dissolving the
(national) assembly at any time is not in the interest of the world or
of anybody in the country.” As regards the judiciary, Gilani said all
the coalition partners have debated issue and decided that a resolution
should be moved in parliament. “Now let’s leave it up to the parliament
to do whatever it wants, whether it wants to restore the judges and the
chief justice.
