1.735m tons wheat imported during 2007-08

ISLAMABAD—Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL) during the year 2007-08 imported 1.735 million tons wheat, Qadir Bux Baloch Agriculture Development Commissioner told APP here on Tuesday.
“The government has imported 1,735,000 tons of wheat during the year 2007- 08 and upto April 18, 1,547,329 tons were despatched to Punjab, Sind, NWFP, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir , Defence, Northern Areas and Utility Store Corporation (USC)”, he remarked.
Mr.Bux said that out of total 1.735 million tons for Punjab province were allocated 385,000 tons of wheat and out of which 361,523 tons were despatched to the province upto April 18, 2008 whike 23,477 tons balance wheat to be lifted by the province.
Similarly Province of Sindh was allocated imported wheat of 515,000 tons and as on April 18, the province lifted 509,548 tons of wheat while 5,452 tons to be lifted by the province.
The NWFP province was allocated imported wheat of 315,000 tons out of which 311,533 tons have been lifted by the province upto April 18, while 3,467 tons balance wheat is to be lifted by the province.
Similarly for Balochistan an imported wheat of 130,000 tons was allocated out of which the province lifted 118,208 tons of imported wheat while balance 11,792 tons of the commodity is to be lifted by the province, he remarked.
The Agriculture Development Commissioner said that an imported wheat of 70,000 tons was allocated to Azad Jammu and Kashmir out of which it has lifted 67,028 tons and remaining to be lifted 2,972 tons to be lifted by the AJK government, he remarked.
Mr.Baloch added that Northern Areas was allocated 5,000 tons imported wheat and it has lifted 5208 tons of imported wheat even 208 tons more than its quota.
He added that Utility Stores Corporation (USC) was allocated 290,000 tons of imported wheat while the corporation lifted 174,283 tons upto April 18 while 115,717 tons to be lifted by the USC, he remarked.
Similarly, he said, Defence was allocated 25,000 tons of imported wheat out of which it has yet to be lifted its quota allocated to it, he remarked.
