59962 cases of HR violation registered during last decade: H. Naik

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Law Justice and Human Rights, Farooq H. Naik has said that total 59962 cases of human rights violation were registered throughout Pakistan during the last ten years.
Disclosing this at the National Assembly floor during the questioning hour on Monday, he said that out of these cases 34296 were registered in NWFP, 18746 in Punjab, 5668 in Sindh While in Balochistan the number of these cases of human rights violation remained 1252. While giving the details of these numbers registered in rest of the cities of Pakistan is as Lahore 3605, Okara 1559, Gujranwala, 4674, Rawalpindi 770, Jang 1772, Multan 937, Vehari 1767, Pakpattan 897, Karachi 1311, Peshawar 7339, Charsadda 1843, Nowshehra 1459, Mardan 2431, Swabi 1644, Kohat 1233, Abbottbad 1648, Mansehra 2062, D.I.Khan 1960, Swat 2053 and in Dir 1307.
While no single case of human rights violation was registered in Sialkot, Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Sherani and in Washak districts.
Federal Minister for Environment, Hamid Ullah Jan Afridi informed that 46 projects worth of Rs. 15232 would be started in order to improve Environmental Management System (EMS) and to make the Environmental Protection System more effective throughout the four provinces including Federal Capital.
He said that National Environment Policy, National Health Hygiene Policy, Bio Safety rules and Environment Management System would be introduced throughout Pakistan.
In this connection, Environment Ministry is consistently monitoring the air quality of all the four provinces including Islamabad, and the EPS Laboratories in all the four provinces have been upgraded while Environmental Protection Tribunals have been further strengthened in Quetta and Peshawar.
The work on the ongoing 46 projects is being carried out with the collaboration of AJK administration, Northern Areas, Ministry of Environment and PWD.
Hamid Ullah Jan said that Environment Ministry has also sent a proposal to obtain grant of $5 million from World Bank to effectively carry out work on these projects and implementation on the environment policy.
Defense Minister Chaudhry Mukhtar Ahmad informed that a total of 11,84242 army officers have been awarded medals during the last ten years, out of which 78 were operational, 1299 non operational, 21299 medals of service, 735000 gallantry awards and 424470 medals Istaqlal.
While speaking about the Financial crisis of PIA he informed NA that PIA faced a deficit of 30574 million rupees in the last three years due to the increasing prices of fuel, increasing rate of loan and sanctions imposed by European Union.
