City Reporter

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Agriculture Research Council in collaboration with Agriculture Support Linkage Programme (ASLP) Australia will organize conference “Opportunity and Challenges for Animal Vaccine production”.
Head Animal Science Division in PARC Dr. Shahana Urooj said Monday that the conference would be started on April 29 with an aim to discuss the issues and challenges faced by the vaccine manufacturing units in the country.
The ASLP is Australian sponsored programme which provides financial and technical assistance in dairy farming, prevent mango fruit from disease and agro- farm machinery, she informed.
She said that Australian vaccine experts would participate in the conference and share their experience which would help enhance capacity building of the vaccine producing units in Pakistan and make the product safe and pure.
There is no regulatory authority to check the purity, authenticity and chemical ingredients of the animal vaccines being manufactured in the country, she said adding “The fake vaccines are badly affecting the health of animals and their productivity.”
Head of Animal Sciences Division claimed that there were a lot of animal vaccine manufacturing units in the country which are selling the vaccine in market without proper tests.
Shahana Urooj said that there was no regulatory authority to check the safety standard of vaccines being imported by the private sector to meet to the domestic requirement.
She said safe animal vaccination was equally essential for humans and animals to ptotect them against deadly diseases.
“Impure and adulterated animal vaccine also leave harmful impacts uponhumans because some chemical components have their effect in milk and meat,” she added.
She suggested that an authority be set up to conduct a proper check for this purpose.
