Rs1.328b released to technical institutions, deeni madaris from Zakat

ISLAMABAD—The government has so far released Rs.1.328 billion from
central zakat fund to the technical education institutions and students
of deeni madaris under regular and special zakat programme across the
country this year.
According to official sources in the Ministry of Religious Affairs,
Zakat and Ushr, Rs.367.608 million were released to Punjab province
under regular zakat programme as educational stipends among students in
the province. A separate amount of Rs.163.382 million were released for
the students of deeni madaris (religious seminaries) out of which
Rs.12.177 million have been disbursed among 6,289 students. Under
Special Zakat Programme, Rs.339.410 million were disbursed as
educational stipends among 560 students of technical institutions in the
province. The Sindh province was released Rs.75.976 million from regular
zakat programme out of which Rs.2.580 million were distributed among
3,924 students as educational stipends. An additional amount of
Rs.33.767 million as stipends to students of deeni madaris out of which
Rs.1.850 million were disbursed 1,067 students.
The province also paid Rs.93.792 million under special zakat programmes,
the sources added. The NWFP received Rs.88.570 million as education
stipends from zakat fund out of which Rs.34.099 million were distributed
among 4,932 students.
The province got Rs.39.364 million as stipends to students of deeni
madaris from zakat out of which 14.958 million were paid to 9,275
students in the province.
An amount of Rs.81.774 million was also released under special zakat
programme to the province out of which Rs.44.592 million were disbursed
among 7,430 students. The Balochistan province was released Rs.16.374
million as educational stipends under regular zakat programme out of
which R.0.636 million were disbursed among 419 students. As many as 265
students of deeni madaris of the province was paid Rs.0.256 million as
stipends against Rs.7.277 million released to the madaris. Under special
zakat programme, the province received an additional amount of Rs 8.345
million for the student of technical education institutions. Islamabad
Capital Territory (ICT) was released Rs.2.105 million as educational
stipends while a separate amount of Rs.0.936 million was paid for
students of deeni madaris.
