CW to review Pak suspension on May 12

ISLAMABAD—The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) will meet in London on May 12 to discuss the re-entry of Pakistan to the 53-nation grouping, from which it was suspended following imposition of Emergency last year.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma said that hewas optimistic that Pakistan could “soon be readmitted” to the body, BBC Radio reported. Pakistan was suspended from the Council of the Commonwealthon November 22, 2007, after the imposition of Emergency rule in the country. CMAG had, at that time, agreed to review progress inPakistan after the conduct of general elections, which took place on February 18 this year and a new government was installed.—Agencies
