Government to ensure CNG transport countrywide: Qamar
By Adnan Rafique
ISLAMABAD—Minister for Industries and Production Syed Naveed Qamar
Friday said that the government will encourage the use of CNG fitted
vehicles particularly for public transport.
During question hour session at the Lower House of the Parliament, the
Minister said the government is making efforts to maximize the use of
CNG as it would reduce the cost of fuel.
He said the network of CNG transport will be expanded countrywide to
contain the increase in transport fares, adding that any progress in
this regard would come forth shortly.
He said the government will consider the proposal that the every car
should have factory fitted CNG kit as a lot of quality difference is
found in the CNG kit that is fitted later.
Responding to a query, the minister said besides the promotion of usage
of CNG, the government would also ensure the maximum supply of gas to
avert any demand and supply gap.
In this regard, he said the government would import pipelines and also
ensure the production of CNG at domestic level. To another question,
Naveed Qamar said Electrical Fuel Injection (EFI) engines are the
established technology for cars. The engines used for most of the car
models produced in Pakistan are EFI engines. However, he said engines of
low capacity cars such as Suzuki Mehran, Alto, and Cuore are not EFI
engines.
The minister told the House that competition in car industry to get
preference through provision of high mileage, efficiency and power,
motivate the car assemblers to innovate and up-grade their engine
specification and technologies.
However, there is no policy or condition for the car assemblers to
produce EFI engine cars only, he added. |
