Ahsan urges equal funds for primary, higher education

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Education, Ahsan Iqbal has urged equal distribution of funds for primary education and higher education and said that students must have the access to digital library at their homes.
Federal Education Minister has expressed these views on the occasion of his visit of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday.
On the occasion, the minister said that higher education is getting more funds as compared to the primary level education. He said that digital education system is one of the most effective tool of online education therefore he directed HEC that it must make the efforts to provide students access to the digital library at their homes.
Ahsan Iqbal has also appreciated the outstanding performance of HEC and said it has gained many achievements in very short span of time. However, he said that GDP rate in education is very low as compared to the funds provided to HEC.
He said that Skill Universities would be set up in order to meet the lack of technical education in the country. The country is also facing shortage of manpower even drivers.
Federal Minister also directed HEC to confer awards to five best students besides that high faculty must be trained. There are numerous fan-manufacturing companies in Pakistan but unfortunately there is no university providing Ph D education.
While talking about the problems of the students faced by Engineering department of Quaid-e-Azam University he urged upon the need to formulate a substantial mechanism. Students must be given admission as soon as the concern council did not issue NOC, he said.
Similarly, he said that there is no shortage of scholars in our country while high-ranking posts in the high educational institutions are lying vacant.
Earlier, Ahsan Iqbal was briefed about the HEC performance. The minister was told that HEC is working on to fill vacancies in Knowledge economy.
Last year 1000 children were given scholarship and same number of children would be given scholarship in the current year. University is also going to purchase software for digital library system and this would provide the students to use digital library 24 hours, he was told.
