No compromise
on national security: PM

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday underlined that
Pakistan Army is an asset stressing that no compromise would be made on
the National Security of the country.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed these views during his visit
to Joint Staff Headquarters and Strategic Plan Division respectively on
Thursday. Military Sources reveal that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani
was given a cordial and warm welcome when he arrived at the respective
Headquarters. Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee General Tariq
Majeed welcomed him.
Prime Minister was given Guard of Honour by the smartly turned out
contingent of all the three Armed Forces. Later, Chairman Joint Chief of
Staff Committee General Tariq Majeed gave a formal briefing to Prime
Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani regarding Pak Army, latest weapons and
technology and various aspects related to it. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza
Gilani on the occasion said undoubtedly Pakistan Army is an asset of
Pakistan stressing that Government will not compromise on National
Security of the country. The PM said that in view of stable and strong
defence, Government will provide optimum facilities in this regard, PM
maintained.
PM further said that efficient and down to earth steps are being taken
for law and Order in the country. Afterwards, Prime Minister was given
another briefing at Strategic Planning Division by General Lt retired
Khalid Kadwai. PM was briefed that our Nuclear Assets are in safe hands
and a strong command and control system exists. The Prime Minister said
that development of Nuclear Program will continue adding that we are not
a rogue state and are neither indulging in an arms race with any one
adding that minimum deterrence will be maintained in this regard. Prime
Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani reiterating his government’s commitment
to the country’s strategic programme said on Thursday that Pakistan
believed in maintaining Minimum Credible Deterrence as a cornerstone of
its national security policy. “Pakistan’s security will always remain
his government’s highest priority”, he said after attending a detailed
briefing on various dimensions of Pakistan’s nuclear programme at the
Strategic Plans Division, the Secretariat of National Command Authority
in Rawalpindi today.
The Prime Minister, however, added that as a responsible, declared and
acknowledged nuclear power, Pakistan would continue to play a positive
role in the international efforts aimed at non-proliferation. He
expressed satisfaction over the effectiveness of Command and Control
Structures of Pakistan’s nuclear capability and said that the
structures, which have now matured, were well conceived and elaborate. |
