Tribunal to
decide Shoaib’s case on daily hearing

LAHORE—Pakistan Cricket Board’s three-member Appellate Tribunal headed
by former Judge of Lahore High Court, Aftab Farrukh has given seven days
time to Shoaib Akhtar for adding any point to his appeal after getting
necessary documents from the Board.
“Shoaib submitted to the tribunal that he needs some documents from PCB
to add any point in his appeal and we have given him seven days time
till April 21 to complete this formality and then we will be having the
second hearing on April 26 “,said the former judge after the first
hearing of the appeal filed by the express bowler Shoaib on a five year
ban imposed on him by the PCB for breach of code of conduct for issuing
statements against the Board and its chairman.
“We will decide this case purely on merit after going through view
points of both the parties”, he added. The tribunal also having the
services of Salman Taseer, an Entrepreneur and former Federal Minister
and Haseeb Ahsan a former test Cricketer heard Shoaib for around 40
minutes.
He said Shoaib’s lawyer Abid Hasan Minto submitted that he needs time to
add get some documents from PCB in his appeal and the tribunal granted
seven day time frame to meet the requirement. The former judge refused
to give exact time frame in which the case will be decided saying the
tribunal will be thoroughly looking into the matter by hearing point of
view of both the parties.
“I cannot say that how much time is required to decide the issue but we
will be hearing the case on day to day basis from the next hearing”, he
added.
He said the decision of majority of the tribunal , two members, will be
considered as the final decision.
“ Obviously counsel from both sides need time to deliberate their point
of view and we will be giving them ample time to complete their
arguments before reaching a decision “,he said adding “ The tribunal
does not see delaying tactics from both the parties to linger on the
issue”. |
