Tribal clashes hit supplies to NATO Forces

PESHAWAR—Due to the closing of Pak Afghan highway supply of goods to
Afghanistan has stopped and NATO Forces are facing severe shortage of
food and oil in Afghanistan.
According to details all factories in Peshawar Industrial Estate have
been closed for indefinite period due to the absence of workers, rocket
attacks on Hayat Abad and growing tension between two warring groups.
President NWFP Chamber of Commerce has told in this regard that workers
were not coming to industrial estate, which had to be closed due to law
and order considerations. While in other side of the border due to the
closing of Pak Afghan Highway land route Afghan citizens of border areas
are confined in their cities.
NWFP chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has called for prompt action
to contain the spread of violence into settled areas in aftermath of
ongoing armed confrontation in Jamurd, Khyber Agency, as the unrest had
created a severe panic among the residents of the bordering settled
areas.
The clashes between two heavily armed groups have so far left many of
people dead and it is feared the violence may spread into the nearby
settled areas of Peshawar. Presided over by Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, the
meeting which held at the Frontier House Peshawar on Thursday thoroughly
discussed the situation in the settled areas after tension increased
Jamrud.
NWFP chief secretary Sahibzada Riaz Noor, IG FC, home secretary,
additional chief secretary FATA, CCPO Peshawar, DIG special branch
police and other high ranking officials were present in the meeting. The
meeting also discussed several proposals and suggestions for restoring
peace in the troubled area.
During the meeting, NWFP chief secretary Sahibzada Riaz Noor briefed the
participants in detail about the situation arise in the settled areas
after clashes. He said the issue was basically related to FATA. However,
he suggested the political administration should utilize all the
available resources for resolving the matter inside the agency in order
to protect the settled areas from the effects of the unrest.
Speaking on the occasion, Ameer Haider Khan expressed his concern over
the situation and directed for concerted efforts to stop spreading
violence into settled areas. He said his government would go all-out to
maintain peace in the province and warned against disturbing law and
order situation. Regretting the policies of the past regime, the chief
minister said if timely action was taken against such matters the city
of Peshawar would have no security threats today.
He directed the law enforcing agencies to take prompt security action in
the areas between FATA and settled areas and also approved the
construction of a strong boundary wall around the industrial estate,
Hayatabad.
He said the wall should be built without any further delay and practical
work should be initiated on its construction so that the industries and
residents of the area could be provide protection against violent
incidents in the bordering tribal areas.
Earlier, additional chief secretary FATA, briefed the meeting about the
measures taken in Khyber Agency for restoration of peace and
maintainence of law and order situation.
He told that an important meeting of the political agent, Khyber Agency
and the regional coordination officer (RCO) was underway at the office
of PA wherein a strategy for Friday action would be evolved to bring the
situation under control.
IG FC in his address said that more than 24 security checkposts have
been established in the areas between the settled areas and FATA. “12
mobiles use to patrol along the key roads and the area has been divided
into four sectors to contain the spread of violence into bordering
settled areas,” he added.
