SC admits petition against graduation condition for elections
By Hina Kiyani

ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Court of Pakistan admitting a petition for hearing filed by a citizen against the condition of B.A qualification for general election has issued notice to Attorney General of Pakistan Malik Qayyum.
The Supreme Court admitting petition filed by one Muhammad Nasir for hearing in its remarks said that considering the importance of this matter a larger bench be constituted. However Attorney General of Pakistan, Malik Abdul Qayyum has also termed BA condition for taking part in the elections as sheer discriminatory and anti-democratic in nature.
Council of the petitioner Muhammad Nasir, Kamran Murtaza while presenting his arguments in favor of eligibility of this petition in front of the larger Bench convened by Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar argued that the condition of graduation for elections was specifically tailored for 2002 elections, and was implemented in the form of an ordinance, which was not presented in Parliament for endorsement, and had hence lost its legality. After reviewing the arguments of petitioner’s advocate, CJ Abdul Hamid Dogar has issued a notice to Attorney general, Malik Abdul Qayyum to appear on 10th April regarding the case, which has been deemed as quite important.
