Road link to Kurram Agency to be opened soon: Najam

ISLAMABAD—Minister for States and Frontier Regions Najmuddin Khan on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that the road link to Kurram Agency will be opened within days after the formation of Hangu Jirga.
Speaking on a Calling Attention Notice, the minister said the Prime Minister has asked Advisor to the Interior Ministry Rehman Malik to personally look into the matter. “According to the latest information that I have got from the NWFP Governor, the trenches are being vacated by the warring factions,” Najmuddin Khan said.
One of the movers of the notice, Shaukatullah said that since the fighting erupted between the locals of the area, many people have been displaced and the agency has been cut off from the rest of the province.
He said the government should start PIA flights or helicopter service to the area as it has a small airport, to help the people come back.
The minister said that many lives were lost on November 16 last as a result of fighting between two warring factions which was later joined by many people from outside the agency.
He said on January 13 and 14 Hangu Jirga was formed and the factions involved in the fighting agreed to pay Rs 20 million in fine in case of violation of the agreement.
He said Pakistan Army also played its role in bringing peace to the area.
Replying to a question, the minister said that those people who left their homes cannot come back immediately as it might re-ignite the fight. He said Levies, border force and political administration is taking steps to control the law and order situation.
