USAID delegation meets Bilour

ISLAMABAD—A 3-member delegation of US Aid led by Mr. Michael M H.R.Y Schchyshyn called on Federal Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour here today and discussed support to the devolution process in Pakistan.
The delegation informed the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development that District That Work (D.T.W) project is working for strengthening of Local Government System and the process for reforms in Pakistan. The delegation told the Minister that the Project is presently working in 30 districts and 30 Tehsils of the country to improve Local Governance process in Pakistan.
The delegation informed the Minister that the D.T.W project intends to hold a national level conference in Islamabad on 28-04-2008 to discuss possible changes/reforms in the local governance and develop a consensus on basic issues which is affecting the devolution process. The delegation requested the Honourable Minister for LG&RD to host the event and deliver his key note address. They also expected patronage of the Ministry of LG&RD for implementation of these programmes.
Talking to the delegation, Federal Minister for Local Government, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, said that the US Aid should contribute to enhance economic development and improvement in quality of life by investing in social sector infrastructure development besides activities of Project. The Minister also emphasized that democracy should also be supported by all our friends. The Minister thanked the delegation for their visit to Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
