45% filtration plants supplying contaminated water
ISLAMABAD—The
filtration plants installed in the capital to provide clean drinking
water are supplying contaminated water causing diseases among the
residents of the capital. According to a report of Pakistan Council of
Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), forty-five percent
filtration plants are providing contaminated water while 75 percent
citizens are using that water.
According to the report, the water obtained from the different
filtration plants of the city for laboratory testing and the human
wastages were found from the water obtained from the filtration plants
installed in the Sector I-8, I-10 Markaz, G-9, G-11, G-8 and I-10. It
has also been found that the some tube wells installed in sectors of
Zone-II are providing contaminated water which is causing hepatitis
while the bacteria were also found in some samples of water obtained
from Zone-III. After the laboratory tests, it has also been found that
the filtration plants are not being checked regularly and many
filtration plants have lost its benefit due to lack of attention from
the authorities concerned.
