55 powerlooms association activists booked

MULTAN—Multan Police have booked 55 activists of the Powerlooms Association and arrested 44 of the accused under section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, sections 436, 427, 147, 148, 149 and 186 PPC. Talking to newsmen here Tuesday, the duty officer said that raids are being conducted to nab the remaining activists, some of whom were identifed as Abdul Khaliq Qandeel, Haji Muhammad Ramazan, Haji Muhammad Yasin, and Haji Bashir Ahmed Pahlwan. Activists and members of the powerlooms association, in a protest rally against loadshedding on Monday, had torched a branch of the Bank of Punjab, two offices of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) and a dozen vehicles at Shah Rukn-e-Alam Colony, New Multan and at the Mepco headquarters on Khanewal road. The demonstrators had also pelted stones at several shops and ransacked Mepco offices.
