NWFP forms panel to restore peace in Swat

PESHAWAR—A member of the peace committee and Provincial Minister Wajid
Ali Khan has said that the NWFP government has formed the committee for
the sole aim to maintain peace in Swat and restore the traditional calm
in the restive district.
Wajid Ali Khan said that the provincial government has formed the
committee consisting of five ministers besides local representatives to
take steps to maintain peace and to start dialogue with militant groups
in the area. The committee has started its working and its outcome will
be visible to the nation very soon, he said. Former Federal Minister and
opposition leader Amir Maqam has welcomed the step saying we want peace
in Swat. The new government is looking determined in maintaining peace
and we support the governmental efforts, he added. The NWFP Chief
Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has said that the government will
resolve militancy in the area through dialogues. After this announcement
the provincial cabinet formed a committee consisting of five ministers.
The extremism, terrorism and militancy have badly affected tourism and
agricultural sectors of the economy of the area. Thousands of people
have left Swat and unemployment ratio is increasing day by day in the
area.
