ANF to set up model addiction treatment center at Karachi
ISLAMABAD—The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) is all set to establish a
200-bed model addiction treatment and rehabilitation center at Karachi,
an ANF official said here.
The ANF is finalizing the PC-I of the project, he said adding currently
there are two such model treatment centres, each in Quetta and
Islamabad. These centres are providing free of cost treatment to drug
addicts, he added.
According to ANF, each centre has 45 beds with the facilities having the
potential to provide 90 per cent of the patients with follow-up
treatment for their rehabilitation. The two centers have already treated
94 addicts who were rehabilitated and provided suitable jobs, ANF
sources said.
He said the government has allocated an amount of 39.017 million rupees
for extension of Islamabad based rehabilitation centre. Taking
cognizance of the situation, ANF has been holding awareness campaigns to
educate general masses about dangers from drug abuse and presently five
such projects are being run.
