Minister review energy conservation crash programme for 100 days

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Environment Mr. Hameed ullah Jan Afridi said on Monday Government is comitted to provide relief to the people and is implementing 100 day crash Programme for Energy Conservation to minimize the load shedding in the country.
These views were expressed by the minister while chairing a high level meeting to review the National Energy Conservation policy here today. The meeting was attended by Managing Director (MD) ENERCON, Farid Ullah Khan, representatives of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources, Industries and Production, Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR), Food &Agriculture, Capital Development Authority (CDA), NEPRA, Provincial EPAs and other stakeholders on energy conservation.
The Minister for Environment reviewed a host of energy conservation measures with all the energy consumers and stakeholders in the different sectors of the economy. The meeting decided to provide tariff facilitation on energy conservation products and appliances like CFLs, geysers, burners etc. The minister directed the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) to prepare a summary for the cabinet for exemption of duty on Energy Savers.
The Meeting decided to mandate the Provincial Environment Departments to look after the implementation of the approved energy conservation Policy to spread ownership for conservation of energy measures.
The meeting recommended the Introduction of Time of Use (ToU) meters for all major industrial consumers. The meeting decided that all respective entities will designate Energy Managers to improve energy efficiency. The decision will be inculcated among industry and all development authorities.
The Minister stressed the need to exploit energy conservation potential as generation is not an immediate remedy available to the country. The minister urged the concerned departments to minimize line losses of the electricity and gas.
