RAWALPINDI—The residents of the Rawalpindi are facing ‘atta’ crisis again, as one of the most essential commodities was short on retail shops in most parts of the city, whereas the supply trucks from the district government were also not present on many sale points of the city to facilitate the people.
According to the survey conducted by Online, the ‘atta’ was not available in most parts of the city including Kamalabad, Chungi No 22, Amarpura, Tench Bhatta, Dhoke Syedan, Dhamiyal Camp, Chakkri Road, Lal Kurti, Ariya Mohallah, Mohanpura, Allahabad, Misrial Road, Naseerabad, Kiyani Road, Bagh Sardaran, Asghar Mall, Choor Chowk, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Shakrial, Kurri Road, Khana Dak. In these areas the people have been unable to get ‘atta’ for almost two days. Meanwhile, the ‘atta’ supply trucks of the district government were also not present on many sale points of the city.
When contacted Rawalpindi District Coordinator Officer (EDO) Irfan Elahi, he said they knew flour was being hoarded to create an artificial shortage. He said the district administration had launched a crackdown on hoarders and profiteers and many of them were fined heavily. He hoped the government would be able to overcome the crisis within a few days, saying the district administration officials were monitoring the flour supply from mills to markets to discourage hoarding. Elahi said the administration would ensure the flour supply at controlled rates in the local markets by taking stern action against hoarders and profiteers and by increasing monitoring of flour mills.
