7 killed in Kurram Agency clashes

KURRUM AGENCY—At least seven more persons were killed and eighteen others injured on ninth consecutive day of clashes between two rival groups. According to a private TV, two groups are using heavy weapon against each other due to which seven persons were killed midst of Saturday and Sunday night.
On other hand, the local administration has been failed completely to mediate between the two rival groups. On the other hand, three members of Hangu Peace Jirga have resigned.
Co-Chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari, taking strong exception of fragile law an order situation in Kurram Agency, has directed Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik to take immediate steps for restoring peace in the area. On the directive of Rehman Malik, Regional Coordination Officer (RCO) Omar Afridi Sunday held four-hours talks with Jirga comprising of Sunni and Shia tribal elders.
The Jirga decided to observe ceasefire by 5 pm today (Sunday) and both sides will hand over their trenches to Frontier Corps on Saturday. The grand Jirga will be held in next few days after opening of all roads and cease fire for finding a permanent solution to problems of Kurram agency.—Agencies
