Lawyers keep
up courts boycott
From Zeeshan Mirza
KARACHI—Like other parts of the country, the legal fraternity in Karachi
continued full boycott of courts proceedings on second consecutive day
Friday over brutal killing of innocent people in Karachi on Wednesday.
No judicial activities were carried in Sindh High Court, City Court,
Malir Court and other subordinate courts. There was complete silence in
the courts. On the occasion, the lawyers offered funeral in absentia and
Fateha for the martyrs of Karachi carnage.
The lawyers also visited Tahir Chamber who was burnt on Wednesday in
Karachi and announced to change its name with name of Shohda building.
The lawyers’ representative termed MQM responsible for the killing and
demanded of the Government to book its leaders on murder charges.
They also chanted slogans against MQM and President Pervez Musharraf.
The lawyers community here Friday announced a three-day mourning period
starting today on the killing of several persons in Karachi in
Wednesday’s riots, and observed complete boycott of courts to protest
the incident.
The lawyers of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and Lahore
District Bar Association (LDBA) observed a strike and did not appear
before the courts following the decision to mourn the killing of more
than 12 innocent persons including lawyers in Karachi.
A protest camp was also set up under the aegis of “Save the Judiciary
Committee” (SJC) to protest the dismissal of judges and the recent
