District Govt cancels wheat quota of 5 mills

RAWALPINDI—The City District Government here on Friday cancelled wheat
quota of five flour mills for alleged involvement in flour smuggling and
also took record of the same mills into possession.
According to the details, some eight trucks making bid to smuggle 4000
flour bags to NWFP were seized at the Chakari interchange as cases
against eight people involved in this crime were also registered.
The City-District government in order to control the illegal
transportation and to overcome the shortage of flour had appointed
revenue staff at all the flour mills to maintain check and balance and
also set up check posts at eight exists and entry points.
On receiving the report regarding transportation of flour from the
informer, that flour was being smuggled out from the Chakri interchange,
the District Food Controller Ch. Muhammad Asif along with heavy
contingent of police force reached on the spot at Chakri interchange and
during the checking stopped some eight truck loaded with flour bags and
registered case against the concerned flour suppliers.
The District Coordination Officer, DCO Irfan Ellahi told APP that the
flour was supplied by five flour mills of Rawat saying the district
government taking serious action has immediately cancelled the wheat
quota of these mills, saying the this quota would be equally distributed
among other mills adding, however, cases against those people trying to
smuggle flour in eight trucks to NWFP has been registered saying the
revenue staff deputed by the district government has also been changed.
He said record of these mills has been taken into possession and
investigations are underway for further details regarding the people
involved in flour smuggling, he said and added that the mills would be
sealed after being proved, involved in the wrong practices and flour
smuggling.
About the shortage of flour he said, we have overcome this crises to
some extent by taking appropriate steps and measures saying special
powers have been delegated to the magistrates to control this smuggling
and ensure distribution of flour to all the areas equally.
He told that the in the grand operation action was taken against the
flour hoarders and price hikers in this regard and levied heavy fines on
them, he added. |
