Kitchen items' prices soar by 1.26%

ISLAMABAD—The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on April 10, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registeredincrease of 1.26 per cent over the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 186.86 as against 184.53 registered in the previous week, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
The SPI for the combined group registered increase of 0.97 per cent by rising from 179.02 in the previous week to 170.76 in the week under review.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 20.83 per cent.
The SPI for the groups falling in the income brackets of 3001-5000, 5001-12000 and above 12000 witnessed increase of 1.23, 1.10 and 0.74 respectively. During the week under review average prices of 9 items registered decrease, while that of 22 items increased with the remaining 22 items' prices unchanged.
The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the weekunder review included, tomatoes, LPG ( 11 kg cylender.), milk (fresh), gur, garlic, moong pulse (washed), sugar, curd and mustard oil.
The items which registered increase in their prices included, egg hen (farm), potatoes, wheat flour (average quality), rice irri-6, wheat (average quality), gram pulse (washed), onions, chicken (farm), rice basmati (broken), lawn, coarse latha, voil printed, bananas, red chillies, masoor pulse (washed), firewood, washing soap (nylon), cooked beef, shirting, mash pulse (washed), mutton and vegetable ghee (loose).
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, beef, bread plain (mid size), milk powdered (Nido), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea packet, tea (prepared), cooked dal, cigarettes k-2, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal spng (Bata), kerosene, electricity bulb (60wats), match box, bath soap (Lifebouy), gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 units), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
