Lawyers go on strike over Karachi riots

RAWALPINDI—The legal fraternity boycotted the courts, held protest demonstrations and taken out rallies in different cities of the country against death of six lawyers who were burnt alive during the violence incidents in Karachi.
Boycotting the courts in Rawalpindi High Court and District Bar, the lawyers have announced to observe three days mourning against death of six lawyers in Karachi. The lawyers also marched from Rawalpindi District Court to Army House. Heavy contingent of Police were deployed on the occasion.
They lawyers also brunt effigy of Chief MQM Altaf Hussain and Party flag. Dubbing MQM as terrorist organization, the legal fraternity demanded Government to arrest those who were involved in death of lawyers and violence incidents in Karachi on Wednesday. They also demanded UK Government to expel Chief MQM Altaf Hussain and handover him to Pakistan. The lawyers also asked Government to end its alliance with MQM. Awan-e-Saddar has become epicenter of conspiracies, the lawyers said. Earlier, addressing the District Bar, President Bar Sardar Tariq Masud asked supporter of Musharraf that President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Aitzaz Ahsan would not step down.—Agencies
